The Young Producer Anupriya Nagar at age of 21 years took a huge risk by investing her three years of UK part-time job savings in Hanuman Ansh. While studying in the UK, she invested her savings in the film Hanuman Ansh. The film also has a few other producers on board.
Made on a budget of just Rs. 2 crore, Hanuman Ansh has now crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark in India. Interestingly, the idea for the film came to Anupriya in an unexpected way.
While pursuing economics at the University of Bath, Anupriya worked on an assignment about Steve Jobs. During her research, she learned about his spiritual connection with Neem Karoli Baba. This sparked her interest, and she began reading more about Neem Karoli Baba and eventually decided to bring his story to the big screen.
After completing her studies, Anupriya secured a job in Zurich. However, in 2025, she returned to India and joined the production of Hanuman Ansh. Until then, she had no prior experience in film production. Despite this, she took a major risk by investing the entire amount she had saved through three years of part-time work in the UK.
Directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, Hanuman Ansh is based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba. The film initially had a difficult journey at the box office. At one point after its release, the number of screens was reduced significantly. However, strong word of mouth gradually changed the situation, and the film began gaining more screens again.
By its fifth week, Hanuman Ansh had crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark in India. According to current box-office reports, the film’s net collection has now crossed Rs. 120 crore.
For Anupriya, however, the film’s success is not only about the box-office numbers. She says her primary goal is to introduce Neem Karoli Baba and his teachings to today’s youth. She also expressed sadness that she first learned about him through foreigners, which motivated her to bring his story to a wider Indian audience, especially young people.
Following the success of the first film, Hanuman Ansh is now set to have a sequel. Interestingly, the makers are not planning to increase the budget significantly despite the success of the first part. Anupriya wants the sequel to retain the simplicity and raw feel of the original film, which was made on a modest Rs. 2 crore budget.
The first film also included a hint about the story of the second part at the end. The team is now preparing to take that storyline forward with the sequel.
