A legal notice has been sent to actor-producer Anushka Sharma over an alleged casteist slur used in the web series ‘Paatal Lok’ produced by Anushka Sharma and her brother, Karnesh Sharma, the show has been trending on Amazon Prime ever since its release.
Viren Sri Gurung, a member of the Lawyers Guild has sent a legal notice to Anushka Sharma. Gurung in his legal notice, obtained by The Quint, said that the word is insulting towards the Nepali community.
Speaking to news agency PTI, Gurung said he has not yet received any reply from the actor as he prepares to also reach out to Amazon regarding the issue.
Previously, an organization representing Gorkhas had claimed that a scene in Paatal Lok contains a sexual slur directed at the community and indulges in stereotyping of the people of the Northeast, and demanded that the conversation be muted.
“We strongly condemn it in toughest terms and seek immediate removal of the scene’s subtitles and mute the slur,” the petition to be sent to Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said. Meanwhile, there’s no official confirmation from the makers of Paatal Lok regarding any petition of legal notice received in the matter. The show is creating a huge buzz every day and has emerged as the top trending web-show in the last few days.
