Story: Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth) also known as Muthu, is a retired jailer living a simple life with his family. His son, Arjun, is a dedicated police officer who clashes with a smuggler named Varma. When Arjun mysteriously disappears, Muthu discovers that his son has been murdered. In response, Muthu goes on a rampage of revenge. However, during this journey, he uncovers a surprising truth that alters his course of action. Verdict: Superstar Rajinikanth delivers a strong performance in a well-crafted role in the movie. Initially, he underplays his character, but as the film progresses, he transforms into a powerful and menacing force. The interval block is particularly impressive. Rajinikanth’s comedy timing shines in his scenes with Yogi Babu, providing good laughs.

The film successfully blends dark comedy with action, making for an enjoyable experience in the first hour. Anirudh’s exceptional background score elevates Rajinikanth’s performance, especially in the Hukum song and the interval sequence. Supporting actors Ramya Krishna, Mirnaa Menon, Vinayakan, and Vasanath Ravi do a commendable job in their respective roles.

Director succeeds in showing Rajinikanth in superb way. The screenplay in the 1st half is gripping however the 2nd half goes overboard apart from a few places. The characterization of Sunil and the parts with Tamannaah do not contribute much to the film. The movie lacks emotional depth and the ending twist is not impressive.

It is quite long, and the second hour is tiresome due to slow-paced scenes. The highly anticipated appearances of Shiv Rajkumar and Mohanlal are not impactful and lack wow factor. Jailer is an action drama film that depends heavily on Rajinikanth’s performance and style. The movie is partly engaging, with a strong first half and Rajinikanth delivering a stunning performance. However, the plot is weak and the second half is disappointing. In conclusion, Jailer is an okay watch, but it’s recommended to not have high expectations.
