Tamil star hero, Suriya, who is desperately awaiting a solid hit has come up with an action-thriller titled, Bandobast. Being helmed by KV Anand, the film is our for the public viewing today. Let’s see whether the film gives Suriya the much-needed hit or not.
The prime minister of India role portrayed by Mohanlal will be killed by a terrorist group. So after PM’s death, Suriya will be relieved from the PMO security Services. In order to find out the actual culprits behind PM’s case, Suriya starts a private investigation in which he eventually finds out the hidden people behind the death and solves the case.
Suriya as a commander is brilliant and did whatever the character demands with ease and dedication. His screen presence and love towards work are clearly visible on the screen.
Senior actor Mohanlal is apt in the given respectable role and did his part decently in the limited screen space.
Hero Arya, who did the PM’s so Role is okay with his acting. Heroine Sayyeshaa surprises with her acting skills as for the first time she got a purposeful role to perform.
Bollywood actor Boman Irani is okay in the negative shaded character and makes his mark in the film.
What didn’t work:
Major complaint regarding the film is its flat and serious narration. Though the initial presentation of the film looks engaging and promises a nice action thrills, soon the film falls flat with its dull proceedings.
A sensitive issue like national safety has been handled in a poor manner. Though actors like Arya and Boman Irani looks good on the screen but their characters are not described in an impressive way.
As the film is a serious drama, one who expects commercial stuff like skin show from the heroine and comedy elements will be disappointed big-time.
Director KV Anand’s idea of making a film on national issues is good but he failed to execute it in a proper way. His writing is bad and so is the case with the screenplay which is a blender. This Kind of lukewarm work from a director like KV Anand is not at all expected and is surprising. Considering his previous films, KV would have handled the film in a better way.
Editing work is not up to mark as the runtime of 2 hours 45 minutes for a film in this genre is totally unacceptable. It would have limited to 2 hours 15 minutes to make thing appealing. Cinematography work is good as the film looks rich in all frames throughout.
Music by Harris Jayaraj is totally a big letdown as none of the songs are appealing on the screen but his background score is impressive at parts. Production values by Lyca Productions are good.
On an overview, Bandobast. is a serious action drama which fails to impress the audience. Suriya’s acting and his screen presence are good but director KV Anand confused in handling the script in the process of narrating various social issues hence making it a below-average fare.
