CBFC Data Leak: An unexpected development has taken place in the film industry. The most secret stories, dialogues, Script work and shooting related to films are now leaked to online. Key records related to more than 500 upcoming films likes Varanasi, Kaka, Dada, Raaka, RC17, Spirit, Fauzi and other industry have been leaked from the Central Censor Board (CBFC), which certifies films in the country. The complete scripts of the films that are to be released are also included in this, causing a huge stir in the industry circles.
Usually, any director or producer keeps the story of their film very carefully hidden until it is released. However, since the approval of the Censor Board is mandatory for screening in theaters, the scripts with complete story and scene details have to be submitted to the board. Producers are submitting these documents through the ‘e-Cinepraman’ portal, which was launched ten years ago. A security flaw arose in this very portal, and all the scripts sent by the producers, cuts suggested by the board, and official documents were leaked online.
The matter came to light when all these files were available for download in the digital library called ‘Internet Archive’, which stores information from old and new websites. As soon as the matter was known, the company immediately deleted the files and informed the cyber police. Suspicions are being raised in the film community as to whether the damage has already been done or whether someone has copied these stories.
Responding to this incident, the Censor Board revealed that they are thoroughly checking the security of the portal. So far, there is no sign that anyone’s accounts have been hacked and no evidence has been found that anyone has downloaded the leaked files. However, they say that it is unlikely that there will be any clarity on how much information was actually leaked until the full investigation is completed.
