Kollywood star hero Karthi has a special following among Telugu audiences. Compared to other Tamil heroes, Karthi is embraced by our audience almost like a native Telugu hero. Even compared to his brother Suriya, Karthi has a better craze in Telugu. However, for some time now, all the films made by Karthi have failed to achieve the expected level of success at the box office. The film ‘Sardar’, released in 2022, emerged as a blockbuster at the box office. After that film, his subsequent movies disappointed. In this context, let us examine in this review to what extent ‘Sardar 2’, which has arrived as a sequel to the film Sardar, has lived up to the expectations.

Sardar 2 Story

This time, the story revolves entirely around the most dangerous ‘Operation Doku’ bio-war, which has the potential to destroy India. Although India initially prevented the impact of this plan, Black Dagger (S.J. Suryah) attempts to reactivate it. To prevent this bio-war from happening, Indian RAW agents, including Sardar (Karthi) and his son Vijay Prakash (Karthi), along with other agents, enter the field. What is the actual objective behind this operation? How does it pose a threat to India? What are the adventures undertaken by the father and son in this process? This forms the main story of the film.

Analysis

Everyone knows how meaningfully the director discussed the water mafia in the first part, ‘Sardar’. While providing entertainment on one side, the film also succeeded in delivering a strong social message. Such was the impact of the film that it would not be an exaggeration to say that many people even became afraid to drink water from water bottles. Now, in this sequel too, the director has chosen another sensitive topic. He has taken a good point against the backdrop of a bio-war about the effects of taking antibiotics in excessive doses on the human body and the consequences that follow. Although he shaped the story after doing extensive research on this subject, he completely faltered in presenting it on screen.

The first glimpse gave audiences the feeling that the film would have action on another level. But the teasers and trailers that followed failed to live up to those expectations. Although the point chosen by director P.S. Mithran is a great one, he remained very average in presenting it in a way that ordinary audiences could understand and be convinced by. The absence of elevation scenes that audiences expected from Karthi, as well as scenes that could create an impact similar to the first part, became a major minus for the sequel. The key villain character is portrayed meaninglessly, and although the story is good, the confusing narration makes the film feel like a struggle. Karthi and S.J. Suryah tried their best to carry the film with their performances, but due to weak direction, the sequel could not provide the experience delivered by ‘Sardar’.

Performances

Karthi: Karthi put his entire experience into the two different shades of characters he played as father and son. He tried his best to hold the film together with his performance.

S.J. Suryah: Although he makes a powerful entry as Black Dagger, there is a weakness in making the character effective enough in the climax. Nevertheless, he impresses with his own style of villainy.

Leads: Malavika Mohanan excels in terms of action. Her stunts on screen will impress mass audiences. Ashika Ranganath also performed well within the scope of her role and impressed.
