Actor Prakash Raj’s strong reaction to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is still fresh in the minds of many. After receiving a notice as part of the voter-list revision exercise, Prakash Raj openly criticised the process and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the exercise was being used for political reasons. He also made strong remarks about opposing the Modi government.
But Prakash Raj is not the only celebrity to have received a notice as part of the SIR process. Election authorities have been issuing notices to several prominent personalities from different fields, including cinema, sports and business, as part of the voter-list verification exercise.
Mahesh Babu, Rajamouli, Samantha Among Those Who Received Notices
Recently, the Telangana Election Commission reportedly issued notices to several popular names from the Telugu film industry, including Mahesh Babu, SS Rajamouli, Samantha, Venkatesh, Vijay Deverakonda and Anand Deverakonda.
The list does not stop with film personalities. Former cricketers VVS Laxman and Mithali Raj, badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, athlete Saina Nehwal, Upasana Konidela and industrialist Divi Muralikrishna Prasad are among those who have also reportedly received notices as part of the exercise.
Interestingly, none of these celebrities appear to have treated the notices as a major controversy. Instead, they are looking at them as part of the SIR process and are submitting the required documents and clarifications to the Election Commission.
Considering their busy professional schedules, the Election Commission has also reportedly given them the option of sending representatives to complete the formalities instead of appearing personally.
Why Is Prakash Raj’s Reaction Different?
This is where Prakash Raj’s reaction has drawn attention. While several other celebrities who received similar notices are simply completing the process, Prakash Raj chose to give the issue a political angle and directly targeted Prime Minister Modi and the BJP.
Prakash Raj has been openly critical of the BJP and the Modi government on several occasions. Because of this, his interpretation of the SIR notice has also been viewed through that political background.
The question now is simple: if the same process is being followed for several prominent personalities across different fields, should every notice be seen as a political move?
While others have chosen to provide the required documents and move on, Prakash Raj’s reaction has clearly made his case stand apart from the rest.
