Happy Journey Story
Savithri (Annapurna), Chamundeshwari (Aamani), Nayana (Jinisha Alishetty), Srilatha (Jhansi), Tanvi (Payal Radhakrishna), Divya (Sunaina), and Vihaan (Roop Srinivas), seven women from different backgrounds, win a Europe trip through a lucky draw and set off on their journey.
Govind (Vamsi) and Apparao (Ravi Shivateja), who run ‘Great Andhra Travels’, accompany them as tour guides. What begins as a fun-filled trip eventually becomes a journey that helps the women understand certain truths about life and rebuild their family relationships. That forms the core of the story.
Positives
Happy Journey is a film made with a good intention. The message that the director wants to convey will certainly connect with some sections of the audience. The title itself gives an indication of the message the film wants to deliver.
A few entertaining sequences in both halves work well. The dialogues between Vamsi and the main female characters generate some laughs. The twist in the climax is also good.
Senior actress Annapurna impresses in a modern avatar, while Aamani, Jhansi, Payal Radhakrishna and Sunaina deliver good performances in their respective roles. Vamsi entertains with his comic timing, and his chemistry with Ravi Shivateja works well.
Negatives
The screenplay is not properly structured, which prevents Happy Journey from making the desired impact. Some unnecessary scenes reduce the impact of the better sequences and affect the flow of the film. The film would have benefited from cutting down on repetitive scenes.
The emotional depth that the film needs is not fully achieved. Since the film attempts to take the audience on an emotional ride, the personal problems of the female characters should have been explored in greater detail.
The balance between entertainment and emotions is not handled effectively. The conflicts between the characters are resolved too quickly, making the final episodes feel somewhat rushed. As a result, some scenes feel artificial, while others come across primarily as message-oriented sequences.
Technical Aspects
The story provided by Hemanth Dhome is good, but it needed stronger screenplay support. Abhiram Naidu has handled the comedy sequences well, but the overall narrative could have been stronger.
Except for one song that appears at the beginning of the second half, the remaining songs composed by Shekar Chandra are good. Subramanian Manigandan’s cinematography is excellent, particularly in capturing the beautiful locations of Europe. The editing is decent, while the production values are good.
Verdict
Overall, Happy Journey works as a fun drama that is effective in parts. The female-centric point and the humour generated through the characters work in several places. However, the lack of sufficient depth in the story and screenplay affects the overall result. With very low expectations, this comedy drama may connect with the audience.
